Jordan Zipser for Staunton City School Board
[insert campaign slogan here]
Jordan is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns.
A nearly-lifelong resident of the Staunton area, Jordan is a parent and a trained educator who wants to bring their training and expertise to the Staunton City School Board. A 2006 graduate of Shenandoah University with a bachelors in Music Education, Jordan is very involved in their local community.
Jordan is a volunteer at the Shenandoah LGBTQ Center, a Masters student at James Madison University, a member of the City of Staunton DEI Commission, and a Virginia Anti-Violence Project Board Member.
Representation matters!
Jordan is an out trans/queer person who is known in the community. LGBTQ+ kids should see someone like them in positions of authority, and it’s important for them to have people who can understand their specific needs on school board. Currently there are no out LGBTQ+ people filling these roles, and in our current political environment, it’s critical we ensure a safe environment for underrepresented students.
Student agency and advocacy increases engagement.
Staunton City Schools already has a strong Kindness initiative - Jordan would love to take it even further by working with our students and Dr. Irizzary on adding Belonging and Home to this initiative.
Our students will do better and learn more in an environment that gives them the support to find their own agency in our community.
